I finally added some fall decor to the inside of my house. I’m so excited! Last year I was able to decorate outside, but I didn’t quite make it indoors. But the deed is done!
When we built our house, I was so excited to finally get a fireplace. I had wanted one for so long. And I enjoy it so much! And I was so excited to finally have a mantle to decorate. It was just gonna be soooooo beautiful.
But wait! Do y’all see the problem here? I got my way so much in building this house, that when it came tv time, I had to give. So guess what Coach had to have. The BIG screen. It is so huge. Now I have no mantle. There go my hopes and dreams! Ok, maybe that’s a little dramatic. But seriously, where is there room to decorate without blocking the screen?!
I did figure out a way to decorate for Christmas. Hanging bulbs and stockings with a little greenery and a few small decos made Christmas so easy. But for the entire rest of the year, this is literally what it looks like. I have thoughts and ideas, but everything is so big. It’s a lot harder than you think.
But during the fall, there are lots of small gourds and pumpkins, so surely I could find something to make it work. And hopefully on the cheap. We are saving for a good vacation this year. Marrying my MK off this past summer didn’t allow for us to have a family vaca this year. So we have some making up to do.
I hit up the Dollar Tree first, hoping to find some small knick knacks to use. All the pumpkins I found there that were a good size had jack-o-lantern faces. I wanted something for all of fall, not necessarily for Halloween, so that wasn’t what I was wanting. So I struck out there.
A few days later, I was shampoo shopping. I walked out from the end of the aisle and… Jackpot!! I spotted exactly what I was looking for and they were only 98¢ each. Bingo! I loaded up and headed for home.
I spread everything out on our loveseat and started making my plan.
I started by spreading the garland across the mantle. This was folded several times to wrap around its packaging and the plastic did not want to “unbend”, but it worked pretty well and I knew I would be putting things in front of it, so it turned out fine.
Then I went ahead and placed the centerpiece to get things rolling.
Next, I spread out the small pieces to decide where I wanted to place things. After looking at the size of the pieces and the length of the mantle, I decided that I really only had room for four of them. So I divided them up how I wanted to use them. I planned on putting the extra on my entry way table.
After I started setting them out, I decided I didn’t want the 2 orange ones in the same place and that the group of 3 were all too neutral and needed a little more color. So I made a little switch. First I placed the 3 on the entry table.
Then I put the 4 on the mantle.
I loved the ribbon that I bought
But when I tried to weave it in, it just wasn’t coming together. So I’ll save it for something else. Finished product! I couldn’t be happier. And all the ingredients together only added up to $18 and some change. If I can do it, you can too. What are you decorating? Share your ideas, too. I always love hearing what you have going on.
